Power facilities under attack in the region
The country's energy systems have come under increased attacks in the past few days

Overnight, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have led to electricity outages in extensive areas of Ukraine's capital, the Ukrainian capital.

A number of civilians were wounded while local people in eastern neighborhoods were experienced blackouts and encountered interruptions to water supplies, according to city officials.

At the same time, a seven-year-old child was fatally injured in a distinct assault in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, based on information from local officials.

Moscow has escalated strikes on power infrastructure over the past few days, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "concrete actions" from allies to apply pressure on Russia.

"What's needed is not symbolic gestures but firm measures - from the United States, the EU and the major economies - in delivering air defence systems and implementing restrictions," he wrote in a public message.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and several dozen rockets struck energy facilities, describing such strikes as "strategic and deliberate" and against "essential services" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Russia was "conducting extensive attacks" and technical staff were working to restore power.

A barrage of missiles hit energy infrastructure and civilian homes in Kyiv.

Five out of the nine people hurt in the assaults on the city have been hospitalized, per statements from local officials.
